General 

What do I need to bring?

Bring your swimwear, towel, sunscreen and water. If you have your own wetsuit, you can use it. However, The Kite Bus will supply you with a wetsuit, helmet, life jacket and all relevant watersports equipment.

Can I learn with my own equipment?

You are able to learn with your own equipment, provided it meets the required safety standards and functions in the correct manner. We are happy to check your equipment or assist you with purchasing new or used equipment suited to your requirements.

Do I need to know how to swim?

You do need to have a basic swimming ability. The level required is not of a high degree as you will wear a lifejacket during your lesson to help with flotation. A life jacket will help you float while swimming.

Do I need any experience?

You don’t need any watersports experience to learn with The Kite Bus. The Kite Bus instructors and coaches are all qualified and love to teach people of all ages and abilities. 

Kitesurf

Is kitesurfing safe?
Yes kitesurfing is safe, provided you learn with an experienced instructor in a kitesurfing school. Instructors are trained with safety as the main focus, ensuring that students will learn in a safe and fun environment. The Kite Bus uses qualified instructors and quality kitesurfing equipment to keep students as safe as possible.
Can anyone learn to kitesurf?
If you are young or just young at heart, The Kite Bus offers kitesurfing lessons for students between the ages of 8 to 80.

We know that every student learns and progresses differently and thus we recommend  YOUR TICKET TO RIDE as it is the easiest way to become an independent kitesurfer.

How long does it take to learn?
Our average student requires 6 to 8 hours of private lessons to have the knowledge and ability to practice kitesurfing safely and independently.

It is important to remember everyone progresses at their own rate. The time taken to learn may vary so never be in a rush, take your time, have fun. Anyone can learn to kitesurf.

Do you teach children?

Yes, we offer lessons designed especially for children. We have an adapted child friendly teaching program specifically developed for the younger kitesurfer, allowing you to feel confident that your child will learn, grow and have fun while learning to kitesurf in a safe environment.

*Children must be at least 12 years old and parental permission is required.

What is the difference between kiteboarding and kitesurfing?
There is a technical difference between kiteboarding and kitesurfing however the two are generally considered the same activity. The technical difference relates to the type of board used and the water conditions present. (Twin tip in flat water and surfboard in waves).
Why do some kitesurfers wear board shorts over their wetsuits?
It is believed to be a fashion statement by many kiters, however to wear or not to wear it’s totally your choice.

Wakeboard

What is a boom bar?

The Kite Bus Super Air Nautique is fitted with a boom bar. A boom bar is a wonderful training device, it provides stability and assists with getting a student out of the water.

“Learn the easy way”. The boom bar is positioned on the side of the vessel close to the instructor/coach, thus allowing ease in communication, instruction and body positioning.

Once you feel comfortable and more confident you will able to progress to a shortened rope attached to the boom bar to get the feeling of holding a handle and the associated movement. The next step is to try a rope behind the vessel.

How many people can go on the boat?

The Kite Bus Super Air Nautique can accommodate 8 people. We recommend a minimum of 2 hours for a group of four to ensure you have enough time to share the watersports experience.

Watersports

What is SUP?
SUP is an abbreviation for stand up paddle board. It is similar to a surfboard although normally longer, wider and thicker. The operator stands upright on the board and uses a special paddle to propel the board through the water.
What is included in SUP hire?

An introduction to Stand up paddle boarding, a stand up paddle board with an adjustable paddle and a life jacket. If you would like to hire a wetsuit this is also possible at an additional cost.

Why does the paddle have a bend?
The paddle has a bend because it has been designed to give a powerful and effective stroke through the water. The bend also known as the elbow allows the blade of the paddle to align with paddle board at the completion of the stroke, achieving optimum performance. It is important to remember to use the correct paddle position.
Why are some paddle boards hard and some inflatable?
Rigid paddle boards are responsive and are used in a wide range of conditions however they are large and thus can be difficult to transport. Inflatable paddle boards are not as responsive but are much easier to transport as they can be deflated.
Can I paddle with my dog?
Yes, If you want to bring your fluffy friend along you are more than welcome. It is important that your fluffy friend is obedient, friendly and enjoys the water for your experience to be successful.
